Should the President Consider Another Running Mate for the 2012 Election?

In the light of recent gaffes by current Vice President Joe Biden and sinking popularity numbers, would it be wise for the president to consider another running mate -- possibly Hillary Clinton?

Jay Carney, spokesman for the White House, categorically affirmed this week that Joe Biden would remain as President Barack Obama’s running mate in the 2012 election. Some don’t think that's such a good idea.

An article in The Washington Post makes the case for Obama to consider an alternative vice president. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s name is usually the name that comes up when alternatives are suggested. Besides Biden’s gaffes, the most recent being the "back in chains" comment to a black audience, there is also the fact that Biden's popularity rate has been slipping in the polls. According to The Washington Post, almost every recent poll has Biden’s numbers the lowest they’ve ever been with more people giving him unfavorable ratings than favorable. While his favorable ratings were well into the 50s when he and Obama were elected in 2008, recent polls, one NBC/Wall Street Journal and another by Fox News, are significantly down. The polls had his ratings at 35 percent favorable to 37 percent unfavorable and 41 percent favorable to 44 percent unfavorable respectively.

Although vice presidents are said to not have any real impact on the presidency, there are some calling for a change on the Democratic ticket.

Do you think that the president should consider taking on another running mate before the Democratic Convention next month? And do you think that Hillary Clinton should take the job?

It should not even be a popularity contest. Smart people see that this administration is taking our money and giving it out to buy votes. It's sad to see that there has not been a budget passed in nearly 4 years, that tells me they do not want to curb spending or decrease the amount of government in our lives. Every election cycle we need to vote out incumbents and get fresh people who are not wanting to make a public office a career.

Just who are these so called "Smart People" you refer to? And the comment, "this administration is taking our money and giving it out to buy votes". What kind of evidence do you have to make a statement like this? I believe you may have been sniffing too much gas fumes from those buses from Romney Bus Tour.

Charles show me where God said anything about gay marriage in the Bible? You follow God's Commandments. He definately didn't say anything about it in the Ten Commandments. I am not pleased about all of the attention the Gay side is getting either, but don't start saying it against God's Commandments. Lets try to at least be honest here.

I take it no one who has commented here is on Social Security yet. I am. I'll be 70 this year. If you are on Social Security you may be alright. If you are close though, you may have a lot to worry about if Romnet/Ryan some how are elected to run this country. First mistake they will make is to repeal the Affordable Health Care Program. Second mistake will be to try to install a voucher system. We can discuss these two program right here if you wish.

Tony, I can tell you what God said about homosexual relationships in the Bible: "Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a LIE, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator -- who is forever praised. Because of this, God gave them over to SHAMEFUL LUSTS. Even their women exchanged NATURAL relations for UNNATURAL ones. In the same way, the men also abandoned NATURAL relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their PERVERSION." Romans 1:24-27 God calls homosexual acts PERVERSION!. Do you think he would then turn around and say, "Oh, but it's okay for men to marry men and women to marry women." I don't think so. Faye M.
