Democrat Michael Owens Qualifies for Thirteenth Congressional District Seat

Atlanta, GA, March 10, 2014 – Dr. Michael Owens, a business leader and decorated Marine veteran, formally declared his candidacy to represent the 13th District in the U.S. Congress on Friday as he headed to the Capitol and officially qualified for the May 20th Democratic primary.

“I joined the United States Marine Corps because I wanted to defend and protect our country” Owens said. “I now want to do the same thing for my community and the people of the 13th district. As a veteran, I understand what it means to give unwavering support and dedication to things that matter most, and I know how to get things accomplished. That’s the attitude I’ll take to Washington.”

Owens is also running to help improve the quality of education in his district. “My children are attending local public schools, where one out of every two children will not graduate.” he said. “It’s time to make a stand for students.” Owens has pledged to work to improve opportunities for foreign language and computer science students throughout Georgia, and to expand federal student loans for those going on to receive higher education.
