Cobb Police Officer Shot Friday Morning

A manhunt is underway for the man who shot a Cobb County police officer at an apartment complex on Hurt Road in Smyrna Friday morning.

The shooting happened about 1:15 a.m. at the Concord Chase Apartments. Police say the officer was doing a zone patrol at the complex when he came across the suspect. The man ran off and the officer went after him.

At some point, police say the officer was blindsided and shot. The officer called in on the radio that he'd been shot. Police responding to the shooting set up a perimeter.

The officer is reported to be in good condition. Authorities have not commented on where the officer was shot.

SWAT has joined the manhunt for the suspect. A reverse 911 was sent to nearby residents to be on the lookout for the suspect and take extra security measures at their homes.

The suspect remains at-large as of 6 a.m. He's described as a black male with a dark complexion last seen wearing a white T-shirt and khaki pants. He has low-cut hair with twists.
