South Cobb High to Remember Teacher

Family, friends, colleagues and students will pay their final respects to South Cobb High School's Barbara Mitchell during a funeral service scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Orange Hill Baptist Church.

"Ms. Mitchell was an advocate for students and supported students growth and well being in and outside of the classroom," South Cobb High principal Ashley Hosey said.

She came to the school in 1999. In addition to sponsoring South Cobb's annual "Capitol Day" student field trip, Mitchell was a volleyball coach at one time.

At the time of her death, she worked in South Cobb's special education department, Hosey said. Her cause of death and other details were not released.

"I have heard from numerous parents and students who were impacted by the kindness and support of Ms. Mitchell," Hosey said. "South Cobb High School and our community is a better place because she worked here."
