Irvin Thomas “I.T.” Terrell, age 87 of Austell, passed away Sunday, Nov. 27. He was a deacon and song leader at Tallapoosa Primitive Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. He was a member of the Austell Lion’s Club for 49 years and coached little league baseball in Austell for many years. He served the City of Austell as a member of the volunteer Fire Department, the Civil Defense, as well as the Zoning Board.

An avid fisherman, musician, and gardener, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Grover Terrell and Virgil Terrell and sister, Louise Whitlock. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lodemia Smith Terrell; children, Michael Terrell of Austell, Regina & Gary Tilley of Austell, Shirley & Jack Dozier of Marietta, and Wade & Jackie Terrell of Douglasville; grandchildren, Jennifer Danner, Bridgett Barker, Jeff Dozier, Adam Tilley, and Jody Dozier; four great grandchildren; sister, Inez Rush of Carrollton; sister-in-law & her husband, Chloie & Bob Baxter of Austell; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Lloyd Blair officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Austell.

Melba Cora Carruth, age 83 of Austell, passed away Saturday, Nov. 26. She had retired from Simmons Bedding Company. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 28 at with Rev. Richard Wilkins officiating. Interment will be in Mozley Memorial Gardens.

Wade Douglas Cole, age 56 of Austell, passed away Thursday, Nov. 24. He was a member of East-West Church and was employed with Norfolk Southern.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Cole; son, Jonathan Aaron Cole of Mableton, son & daughter-in-law, Garrett Douglas & Amy Cole of Powder Springs; daughter & son-in-law, Maggie & Maurice Barnes of Powder Springs; grandson, Mason Reece Barnes; mother, Ruth Fralin Cole of Suffolk, VA; sisters & brothers-in-law, Carolyn & Jack Hill of Wichita Falls, TX; Andrea & Brad Bender of Salt Lake City, UT; brother & sister-in-law, Barry & Kathy Cole of Suffolk, VA. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m., instate  10 a.m. at East-West Church in Marietta. Bishop H. Alan Mushegan Jr. will officiant. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East-West Church, 1521 Hurt Road, Marietta, GA 30008. Arrangements are with Davis-Struemf Funeral Home & Crematory in Austell.

Barbara Clark Buice, age 74 of Austell, passed way Friday, Nov. 25. A native of Austell and Mableton, and a 1955 graduate of , she was employed by Butler Shoe Corporation and retired from Ceridian Corporation.

Survivors include her sisters and brothers-in law, Betty Clark and John Eldred Stanfill, Patsy Clark and Joseph H. Jordan; nieces, Viki Stanfill-Stephens, Kelley Jordan-Monné; nephew, Jody Jordan; one great-niece and four great-nephews.  Funeral services were held at Davis-Struempf Chapel on Monday. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs. If you do not wish to send flowers, a memorial donation may be made to Cobb County Animal Shelter. Arrangements are with Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory in Austell.

W. Harris Farmer, age 94 of Austell, passed away Nov. 21. He served in World War II. Then, in the early 1950s, he was one of the founders of Austell Christian Church. He later helped to found the Sweetwater Valley Youth Association and served two terms on the Austell City Council. Harris was retired from Big Star Corp.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Gayle Farmer Newsom and is survived by his wife of 70 years, Carrie Farmer; sons, Ronald Farmer of Villa Rica and Alan Farmer of Decatur; son-in-law, Donald Newsom of Austell; grandchildren, Derek Farmer, Greg Farmer, Matthew Newsom, Wesley Newsom; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Davis-Struempf Chapel on Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. with Clay Henry officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mildred Hattie Rutherford, age 94, passed away Nov. 20. Born in Douglas County and raised in Austell, Mildred was the eldest child of Raymond Sylvester Rutherford and Ruby Meadows Rutherford.She  was an active member of and graduated from Austell High School in 1935. After attending business school, Mildred began working for Sears Roebuck in 1936. She moved to Decatur and became an active member of Virginia Highland Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as the superintendent for many years. She was church historian as well as her family historian, compiling many albums of records and photos of church and family events from the past and present. She retired from Sears in 1982 after 46 years and was active in the Sears retiree club for many years. She enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends and she loved flowers. In recent years she moved to Marietta to reside at Atherton Place.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alline Gore and Catherine McWilliams; and brother, Raymond Rutherford. She is survived by her brother Ralph Rutherford and his wife, Doris of Lavonia, GA, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 26 at Virginia Highland Church. Interment followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Austell. If you wish not to send flowers, please make memorial donation to Virginia Highland Church or the WellStar Foundation.
