Obituaries for people who lived in or were from South Cobb

JoAnn Adams, 81 of Austell, died Dec. 6. She is survived her daughters, Reita Jacobson of Kennesaw, Patty Crisler of Marietta; sons, Wayne Adams of Lithia Springs, Tim Adams of Atlanta; sisters, Doris Smith of LaFayette, Lillie Dale of Centre, Al, Helen Conaway of Trion, Jeanette Penrod of Trion, Josie Ramey of LaFayette; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and many neices and nephews. She is preceded in death by her sister, Imogene Sharp. Adams retired, after 32 years of dedicated service, from Mead Packaging where she was an inspector. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilting. She was a longtime member of the Canaan Fellowship Baptist Church where served as communications secretary.

The funeral service was held Friday Dec. 9 at Roy Davis Funeral Home Chapel.

George Dusty Smith, age 62 of Mableton, passed away Dec. 9. Smith proudly served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, was a retired electrician, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Peggy Kennedy Smith; daughter, Leigh Smith of Mableton; sisters, Phyllis Jordan of Cartersville and Wendy Strozier of Acworth and nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Davis-Struempf Chapel, with Rev. David Melton and Rev. Shane Rakestraw officiating. Graveside services were held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.

Linda Reid Wade, age 71 of Austell, died Thurday, Dec. 8 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, John Kenneth Wade Sr.; son, John Kenneth Wade Jr. of Austell; sister, Judy Monroe of Douglasville; grandchildren, Robert Wade and Abbey Wade of Austell.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 10 at Roy Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Humphries officiating. Interment was at Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs.

Harvey Jackson Wells Jr., age 81, of Mableton passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8 at Wellstar Community Hospice/Tranquility in Austell. He was born to Harvey and Clara Wells in Atlanta on Aug. 18, 1930. After high school, he married Jewell Jones. He worked as a plumber for Atlantic Steel Company and joined the U.S. Airforce in 1951 at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. After several years of honorable service, Wells retired from the Airforce and became a self-employed electrician. Wells was an avid golfer and played until he wasn't able to do so. He was a collector of model planes and rockets as well.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jewell, who passed away in 2008 and his son, Kenny Wells of Mableton. Survivors include his son, Steve Wells of Smyrna, nieces, nephews, and many other loved ones. Wells was cremated on Thursday, Dec. 8 through White Columns Funeral Chapel in Mableton. No services are planned at this time.
