In Memoriam: Edna Earl Rainey Carpenter, 78, of Mableton

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at White Columns Chapel with an internment to follow at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.

Edna Earl Rainey Carpenter, age 78, of Mableton, formerly of Winder, passed away in the afternoon of Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Golden Living in Marietta.

A wife, mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Carpenter was born to Amos Dewey Rainey and Alma Idell Hulsey Rainey on July 13, 1935.

She was a native of Barrow County and later resided in Shelby, North Carolina before moving to Mableton in 1956.

After working as a nursing assistant at Piedmont Hospital, she cared for many children in her home.

Mrs. Carpenter was a beloved member of Mableton First Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and church family.

Edna Earl Rainey Carpenter is preceded in death by husband, John Andrew Carpenter. Survivors include sons, Steve Carpenter of Franklin, North Carolina and Douglas Carpenter of Marion, North Carolina; daughter, Jennifer Carpenter Silverstein of Saugus, California; sisters, Virginia Rainey Powell of Covington, Hilda Black of Crouse, North Carolina, and Mary Frances Rainey of Covington; grandchildren, Brittney Nichole Silverstein and Jeremy Andrew Silverstein; and best friends, J.R. Pate of Douglasville and Jeannie Kolter of Mableton.

The family will receive friends 12:30 pm until service time at 2:30 pm Sunday, March 9, 2014 at White Columns Funeral Chapel in Mableton with Rev. Stephen Byrd officiating. Interment will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 10, 2014 at Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton.
