Won't Back Down, parents, children, and schools working together

Thank you to Valerie Testman I was able to see a Special Screening of the movie "Wont Back Down".  I won't to tell the entire plot of the movie, I will tell you it was an awesome movie. The movie gives insight about how parents, schools and community must work together to ensure our children receive the highest quality of education.Parents are not to sit back and criticize our education system. We must continue to participate in our schools and community to advocate for our children on all levels.

On September 15, 2012, We Thrive on the drive, hosted a parent leadership brunch. The leadership brunch was attended by parents, community members, educators and elected officials. It was held at Kingsley Village Apartmentments located on Six Flags Drive, Austell, GA. At the brunch State Representative Alisha T. Morgan gave updates from Georgia State legislation. School board Representative David Morgan, encouraged the group to be proactive. Kiddada Grey gave a presentation about ways for parents to be invovled in the schools. A special thank you to Mr. Travis Joshua, prinicipal of Lindley Sixth Grade Academy, and Mrs Annette Lewis, Parent Liaison Riverside Primary for attending the brunch as well. In addidtion to being inspired by the presentations, the group also received South Cobb area highlights. Highlights included The boys and Girls club bus transportation being reinstated, 30 parents and community members attending PTA day at the state capitol and recognizing Mrs. Carolyn Davis, Riverside intermediate teacher as Cobb County Elementary School teacher of the year.

You see South Cobb area parents, and community truly cares about our children and schools. Our story may not make it to the big screen, but as long as we have dedicated people involved, our voices will be heard. One community, one voice, our children deserves the best. Don't ever back down
