Six Flags Drive.....Youths on the move

. I wanted to take this time to highlight the positive activities youths take part in the South Cobb/Austell/ Six Flags Drive community.

I wanted to take this time and highlight youth programs that take place on Six Flags Drive primarily at the South Cobb Recreation Center and the South Cobb recreation Complex.The Community Play House which is an after school program serves 40 youths ages 5 to 18. The program focuses on drama, dance and character building. Karen Shirley is the director of the program. On Tuesday February 26th, the Community Playhouse wil lpresent it's winter production at the Jennie T. Anderson Center. The play will begin at 8 p.m. also, The Community Plauhouse will recognize Cobb County Honorees.  The Royal Elites, meets on Saturday mornings at the South Cobb Recreation Center. The Royal Elites is a dance troupe which have been in the area over 10 years. There are 20 young ladies that participate in the program ages 5 to 18.The director of Royal Elites is Mrs. Yvonne Wells.  This past Fall and winter South Cobb Youth Basketball Assoiciation occupied the Recreation center with practices and games. Over 400 youths ages 5-18, from the South Cobb area participated. The 8u league and 10u league are the 2013 Cobb County Champs. The president of the South Cobb Youth Basketball association is Jermaine Jenkins. The Boys and Girls Club serves over 150 youths daily. The club highlight character building, leadership, intramural sports and teen enrichment. Nkeschia Brundige is the director of the Michale A. Grant Boys and Girls Club. Passion for life is a youth career/college group that meets at the Recreation center every other Saturday. The program is coordinated in partnership with the Austell Opportunity Zone. There are 15 youths who meet with the program.  On Saturday February 16, 2013 the South  Cobb Recreation Center hosted a Mother/Son and Father/Daughter valentine dance. Mr. Larry Dubose and Mr. Leslie Walker did an excellent organizing the event.  We Thrive on the Drive
