Atlanta Public Schools WATCH

Monica DeLancy is an active parent in the schools and community in Cobb County, Georgia.

It is a sad day that educators are on the front lines educating our children are subjected to felony charges for alledgely cheating on a high stake test. This is very sad not only are the educators hurting but the community, the children are hurting. Now I know this a very sensitive subject but please let me ask these questions. Why is this communiy being targeted? Why don't they have high stake tests in PRIVATE schools? If high stake tests were taken out of schools would there be such a pressure to do well on a test?  What evidence do they have other than hear say? Now I can only say this, there are some students who can christmas tree a test and pass and still probally can't read. Or in some cases you have some kids who can't take standardized tests but who do well in their subject areas. Stop putting pressure on tests. Also let me say this, a community that have schools that possess great test scores will most likely have the best value on their houses, stable businesses and projection for economic development. Or in some cases a community that has low test scores, will have depreciated housing value, businesses in the community that are convience stores and the possibility of economic development once the area is revitalized.  I hope that this situation won't deter more people becoming educators, or deciding to teach in low performing schools. Remember schools and community work together, just because you may not have a child school, your voice still matter. The time is now to become active in your School council, PTA, community groups or local child care facility. It takes a village.......we're all in this together.
