Voting in South Cobb

The decision of voters in South Cobb can greatly influence the outcome of the run-offs set for August 21st as well as other local races in the general election this coming November.

 After the November 2008 general election, the secretary of State’s office listed the number of people, by race, age and gender, who voted in the high-turnout presidential election. Those records showed that 316,166 Cobb voters went to the polls in the presidential election, of which 220,873 were white (69.9 percent), 74,487 were black (23.6 percent), 10,236 were others (3.2 percent) 5,781 were Hispanic (1.8 percent) 4,789 were Asian (1.5 percent).

The total votes cast during the Tuesday primary race for District 4 commissioner was 10,940, while only 6301 votes were cast for the Area 3 School Board race. County wide only 31.3% of all registered voters cast ballots despite the draw of TSPLOST.

Over the past four years the growth in population and civic interest as reflected in candidates vying for office in South Cobb and attendance at candidate forums has continued to reflect the evolving diversity in our economic, education, and political landscape.

Voting for the runoff will probably be lower than this past Tuesday, but November’s numbers are projected to be high.
