Remembering those that fell

Cobb remembers those who served, protected and died in the line of duty as law enforcement officers.

Over the years Cobb County and its six city police forces have lost a toatl of 16 officers.

Β Men and women who were sworn to serve and protect. A fiitning tribute was paid to these fallen servants last Thursday as the Cobb County Police, Sheriffs dept and representatives of all law enforcement agencies in Cobb participated.

After presenting and posting the colors and then posting silent sentinels at both of the flags prayers, songs and comments were shared for all in attendance.

All american tributes have to have a pledge to our flag, they have to have a prayer and then a stunning redition of "America"

Formal postings and retrieval of the guards of honor, the riderless horse with the high glossed boots carefully installed in the styrups in a reverse direction; the playing of the bagpipesΒ and then the ceremonial placing of 16 long stem roses into a barren wreath.

The riderless horse symbolic of a fallen leader turned around in the saddle to watch over his troops.

Reflective words of encouragement and words of caution to all at the memorial as Monica Pearson reminded us of the tremedous sacrifce these men and women make each day as well as the price the families also pay.

The roses being placed by members of the fallen servants family, when ever possible, or a fellow officer from the unit in which the servant served.

As dusk began to decend upon Glover Park, the thunder of police motorcycles, patrol cars, pursuit vehicles, suvs and other law enforcement vehicles overcame the quietness of the moment.

Lights flashing causing a blue hue to fall on all involved and then the sireens whailing until quietened so as to hear the 21 gun salute from atop the statley Strand Theatre followed by the playing of Taps.

Not surprisingly but we had elected officials and would be officials in attendance and they were all more than happy to be captured on the digital storage.

The skys threatened several times but not a drop of moisture dared to fall and dampen the spirits or those in attendance or even those being remembered.
