One Thousand Pointed Toes

Little toes and big dreams culminate with the recital.

How do keep 500 young people and 1,000 pointed toes happy?

You perform the GMDT Spring Recital 2012 at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre.

There were six sold out performances to celebrate the efforts of
students at the Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre, a dance studio teaching
since 1956. The GMDT formally was the Ruth Mitchell Dance Studio.

Students come from all over the county to practice, practice
and practice some more. The rewards are often scholarships to notable
Universities that promote the arts and dancing in particular.

For example; Ashleigh Whitworth,
an outstanding dancer, former student of the studio with her local roots, her
outstanding record and successes at Philadelphia School of the Arts and her
return to Marietta. That’s another story you will want to read later.

Three, four and five days a week of dedicated effort produce
what was staged over the two days this week end. Three year olds are the
audience favorite most of the time because they dance to their own beat but
them the older dancer’s get into the act and the choreography gets a little
more defined.

Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends all
strain to see their special person on the stage on their tip toes performing at
levels that stagger the mind.

The Spring Recital is the culmination of weeks and weeks of
practice only to be greeted by a very very short break before the dancers go
back into getting ready for the next performance. GMDT has two big productions
each year and then the spring and fall recitals.

The Fall Show is scheduled for Sept 29th and then
the always popular and quickly selling out “Nutcracker” which is staged on
Thanksgiving weekend.
