BLUE SKIES NOTHING BUT BLUE SKIES FROM NOW ON

Childhood cancer and what it does to families.

Do you remember that great old tune that put a little hope into everyones life?

Some of the younger readers have no idea but for those of us who have a few years under the belt might recall the words.

Can you imagine how you would feel if you learned that a child, your child or even your grandchild, had been diagnosed with childhood Cancer?

What would you do? Who would you talk to? Where would you go and why? All sorts of questions would be running around in your mind and it would seem you would be all on your own for this one.

I want you to meet Amanda. Amanda is a young lady who has had the experience and she and her husband Brad decided not to  just sit there but to get up and start at leat a program to help folk cope.

Last week, Amanda McLean from Blue Skies Ministries was the Lockheed Georgia Retirees speaker. Amanda works as a Guest Family and Volunteer Coordinator at Blue Skies Ministries. Her husband Brad, who is a Georgia Tech graduate, is the pastor and administrator of the organization.

They both feel especially called to this work because their
8-year-old son, Nathan, is a cancer survivor and they know first hand the
difficult journey of pediatric cancer. Blue Skies is an Atlanta based non-profit
ministry that offers week long family retreats to bring the hope of Christ to
families living through the challenges of pediatric cancer. Their hope is that
children who are sick will laugh and play again; that siblings, who often
compete with illness, will feel cherished and valued; and, that marriages will
be renewed and strengthened. Retreats are held at the beach each Summer.

Around 12 families join volunteers and have the opportunity to put aside the hardships of childhood cancer for just a little while. They play, laugh, and reconnect as a family. Amanda's program was informative and uplifting and we praise the work she and others are doing at Blue Skies.

If you are a member of an organization you might want to get Amanda to come and share the story for your members.
