Local Couple Headlines Fright Fest

The Captain and Maybelle, nationally known from season six of the TV show America's Got Talent, are headlining the Halloween Fright Fest show at Six Flags Over Georgia.

The Captain and Maybelle, nationally known from season six of the TV show America's Got Talent, are headlining the Halloween Fright Fest show at Six Flags Over Georgia.

The show is accurately billed as something you've never seen before. Unless, of course, you've seen an act where a man swallows nine swords at the same time, eats glass, breathes fire and then straps his wife to an electric chair to shoot 40,000 volts through her.

"What we do is real," Maybelle is quick to point out. "There is no magic, no illusions. That sets us apart.

"And all of it's laced with humor," she interjects with a big smile. "What you see is what you get. You will definitely walk away feeling Southern fried. People are afraid, unsure, scared and excited. We want people covering their faces and peeking through the fingers."

"They're going to see things that their minds will not believe," Captain Chris said.

That's when he pointed out how he and his wife get the audience involved in the act. "There's going to be a bug eating contest," he said with a grin that slowly turned into a wry smile. "Well actually, a Madagascar hissing cockroach eating contest. I'm going to make them spew," he said. All that was missing was the maniacal, evil laugh.

"Sponsored" by Professor Theodore Rose, a silver-tongued snake-oil salesman, the show will begin this Friday at Six Flags Over Georgia. Friday is Season Pass Holders Appreciation Day and reserved for folks that have a season pass to the park but each Saturday and Sunday the performance is open to the public. There will be five shows a day on each weekend in October, and Friday, Oct. 26, and no two shows will be the same.

This is the fourth year that Captain Chris has performed at Six Flags but never with wife Maybelle and never in a show of his own.

"After last year's show I was extremely determined for us to get our own show," he said. "We worked a whole year on building our own props and creating something that they've never seen before."

After beating out more than 100,000 acts and making it to the quarterfinals of season six of America's Got Talent, the couple knew they had something special and would forever be a familiar brand name.

Both Captain Chris and Maybelle grew up in Douglasville and graduated from Douglas County High School, the Captain in 1992 and Maybelle in 1996. They have two children, Ava ,7, and Payton, 14. Their silver-tongued stage partner, Professor Theodore Rose, was in the first graduating class from Hiram High School.
