Harmony Leland Parents Doing All They Can To Get a New School Building

HLES Parents & Mableton/ South Cobb Community!

Please help us reach the Cobb County School Board with your support for a new school building for Harmony Leland Elementary School.

If you are available to attend the CCSD School Board Meeting this week, fantastic, if not, then please consider sending an e-mail to the school board!

There is an upcoming vote by our Cobb County School Board in the next few weeks where they will decide which two schools in Cobb County will get a BRAND NEW school building with SPLOST4 tax funds.

We want to be one of the schools they choose, but if we don’t get our parents, local business owners, church representatives, and other Mableton residents to THIS WEEK’S meeting to show our support for HLES to get a new school, it won’t happen!  There are now three schools who are asking for a new school and only two available.

We ask you NOW to do this because in 3 weeks, the vote will be over and we will have little say.

The meeting we need you to attend is this Wednesday, Oct.9 at 8:30AM. (514 Glover Street Marietta GA 30060).  If you want to say a few words on our school’s behalf, you must sign in to speak. The sign in sheet is available from 8:00AM-8:25AM.

Dear Board Member:

<<Insert personal experience here>>

I am a <parent/community member> at Harmony Leland Elementary and I have concerns about the current school building.

I’m writing you to urge you to vote for Harmony Leland in Mableton as the number one choice for a new school in Cobb County with the SPLOST 4 funding!

Our school is in desperate need for a new building.

This is the oldest school building in Cobb County (built in 1951) and it shows!

  • When it rains, the ceilings and cracks windows leak.  There are stains on many ceiling tiles that were just replaced in the summer.
  • The classrooms are small and we are way over capacity!  We are at 711 where our capacity is 478.
  • It is not safe for our students traveling back and forth to the trailers and in other areas of the school that are older.
  • Lunch is at 10:30 for some classes so there is time to fit in the 30 lunch breaks needed.
  • The gym is a very old carpet material and it not big enough for classes to have a true PE experience.
  • The teachers are doing amazing things at Harmony Leland and teaching with the limited resources they have.
  • The teachers and children deserve a building that they can be proud of!

Also, the South Cobb area is making strides in improving our community and a new school will help us continue to improve our community and help encourage new people to move to South Cobb.  We need property values to start to move upward again and have our current residents stay here for the schools and not move out because of them.

Please vote for Harmony Leland to be the first school to be built with SPLOST 4 funds.

Thank you for your consideration,
