A recent federal raid of a Smoke 911 shop in Sandy Springs highlights the rise in crimes related to synthetic marijuana and bath salts, but what are these drugs?

According to DrugFree.org, bath salts are a synthetic compound of a chemical found in the Khat plant. 

“We started hearing about bath salts in late 2009, early 2010,” Sandy Springs police Detective Joseph Lane said. “It really was the new kind of designer drug. Not many people knew what it would do to you.” Read more...

Man Tried to Abduct Child at Bus Stop

A child was nearly abducted while waiting for the bus near Lakeside High School in DeKalb County on Wednesday morning, the a civic association there said.

UCLA Withdraws Scholarship to Lassiter QB

The UCLA Bruins have withdrawn their scholarship offer to Lassiter High School quarterback Eddie Printz, a move that left both his family and his coach blindsided.

Printz's father, Ed, had to actively seek out UCLA coaches about the withdrawl instead of being told by them, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported. 

"I feel like a horse kicked me in the stomach," the elder Printz told the AJC. "And I feel like I let my son down because I let him commit early." Read more...

Elderly Woman Killed in Hit and Run

A 67-year-old female pedestrian was fatally injured Tuesday when an SUV struck her on Roswell Road. She was taken to North Fulton Hospital where she died from severe head injuries.

WSB-TV identified the victim as Lanzhen Pan, a Chinese emigrant living in a nearby building for senior citizens. Read more...
