Usually, people are wanting to break out of prison, not break in.

But Atlanta police report that one of its officers thwarted what seemed to be four people trying to smuggle items  — including two loaded handguns — into the U.S. Federal Penitentiary. Read more on East Atlanta Patch.

Grandmother Charged in Death of Monroe 4-Year-Old 

Cynthia Lynn Miller, 50, of Monroe, has been charged with first degree vehicular homicide, driving under the influence (drugs), serious injury by vehicle and failing to maintain lane after an accident in Morgan County Monday resulted in the death of her grandson and the critical injury of another family member. Testimony Begins in Murder Trial of Former Midtown Security Guard 

Survivors and witnesses to the July 2011 parking deck shooting in Midtown began testifying Tuesday in the trial of the former security guard charged in the case.

Nkosi Thandiwe has pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges connected to the July 2011 shooting spree at the Proscenium building that left Brittney Watts dead at the scene, injured Tiffany Ferenczy in the leg and paralyzed Lauren Garcia. Read more on Midtown Patch.
