Football Coming to Kennesaw State 

Score one for Kennesaw State.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia today approved Kennesaw State’s request for a football program.

"Touchdown," Kennesaw athletic director Vaughn Williams said.

The decision comes a little more than one month after the board decided to take Kennesaw State’s request for a football program "under further study."

Search Continues for Man Missing on Lake Lanier 

A multiagency search of Lake Lanier and surrounding shorelines is underway for a 47-year-old man missing in what appears to be a single boat accident, according to officials with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

At about 9:48 p.m. Monday, DNR was called to investigate an unmanned 15-foot jon boat that was circling an area of the lake near Bald Ridge Creek at big rock. When authorities arrived they found the boat on a bank and out of gas. Read more on Cumming Patch.

Resource Officer Badly Injured by Vehicle

A Gwinnett County Schools police resource officer was struck and injured by a vehicle about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday (February 13) near Lanier High in Sugar Hill, Gwinnett Police said.

The GCPS officer "suffered serious injuries" from the accident, which happened while he was directing traffic at the school, which is located on Buford Highway near Suwanee, police said. Read more on Peachtree Corners Patch.

'Vampire Diaries' Scheduled to Film in Stone Mountain Thursday 

The television show 'Vampire Diaries' is set to film in the city of Stone Mountain on Valentine's Day (Thursday, Feb.14) and extras  -- specifically, "new faces" covering a wide-ranging age group -- are needed.

Buckhead Student Continues to Beat the Competition on Teen Jeopardy! 

The students and extended family of The Westminster Schools have been on the edge of their seats for the last two days, as one of their fellow students competes on national TV in the Teen Jeopardy! competition.

Nilai Sarda is a 13-year-old, ninth grade student who has supposedly spent the last two years trying to get on the TV show. This year, his dream came true, and the Marietta resident has been winning fans since his first Jeopardy appearance on Monday night. Read more on Buckhead Patch.

Cascade Boy Scout Leader Says He'll Leave if Gays Allowed 

A man who has served as a leader with the Boy Scouts in southwest Atlanta for 46 years said he is prepared to give up Scouting, one of his life's passions, if the organization decides to allow gay members and leaders.

For the last 103 years, the Boy Scouts of America have banned gays from joining their ranks. On Feb. 6, the organization announced that it would delay until May its decision to either continue enforcing the ban or to admit gays, which has sparked both outrage and praise from parents and those involved with Scouts. Read more on Cascade Patch.
