Gusting Wind, Hail May Create Hazards in South Cobb

Hold onto your hats, it's getting windy out there, so windy that the National Weather Service has put out a wind advisory until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Expect winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Small trees in saturated soils and drought-stressed trees may be toppled. If you are driving a high-profile vehicle such as a minivan or SUV, expect driving to become hazardous in these gusts.

If high winds weren't enough, isolated severe storms also are in our forecast with damaging wind and hail the main threats. But listen for those tornado sirens, as isolated tornadoes also are possible.

The National Weather Service's Peachtree City office said a cold front will move through north and central Georgia today, bringing showers and thunderstorms to the area. There is enough low-level shear for possible isolated tornadoes. The best timing for thunderstorms will be into the early evening.
