Mableton Couple Join Fight Against Leukemia

Jen and Bill Moss enjoy running while raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Jen Moss started her path with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training (TNT) by running a marathon in Nashville in 2003. She had been volunteering for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since 9/11 in memory of her nana, Doris McCafferty, and was inspired to join TNT after attending an information meeting.

Jen's husband, Bill, started his journey with Team In Training by running a half marathon in Anchorage, Alaska in 2005. He was looking for a way to honor his mother, Margaret, who had lost her battle to leukemia in 2000.

Since Jen and Bill were both new to Atlanta, TNT gave them a way to meet new people.

Jen and Bill met through Team In Training in 2005 and became friends. Bill registered for a different marathon when Jen was coaching the 2006 TNT Dublin Marathon Team. She convinced him to join her team instead. After completing the Dublin Marathon, they became engaged.

Jen and Bill now have two daughters, who enjoy running in local “tot trot” races and helping their parents volunteer for water stop duty at TNT group training sessions.

Jen is a seasoned runner and has been a participant, mentor, or coach of half marathons and marathons nearly every year with the program since 2003. She successfully completed the 2007 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C., which Bill mentored.

Bill successfully completed the 2009 Walt Disney World Half Marathon with TNT in Orlando and was a mentor for the 2011 TNT Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah Marathon Team.

Together, they have completed 17 events with Team In Training.

Jen and Bill estimate that they have raised $48,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in all of their events. With over $1.32 billion raised since 1988, TNT athletes are contributing to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s goal of one day finding cures for blood cancers.

When asked what drives her, Jen states, “I enjoy helping others raise money and taking on the challenge of training and completing an endurance event.” She participates on behalf of her nana and all the heroes she’s met since her first TNT event. “My nana was a strong, amazing woman who inspires me daily.”

Already in  2013, Jen coached the TNT Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon Teams, which raised more than $94,000 for LLS. Bill just completed the 2013 Walt Disney World Marathon and they both look forward to their next events with the program.
