Preventive Health Screenings for Older Adults Coming to Mableton

Free preventative health screening offered in Mableton, Thursday, April 26, 2012.

Lifelong Mableton, a project of the Atlanta Regional Commission, and AARP Georgia are partnering to host a SPARC (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration) event in Mableton this spring. 

The event will be held April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the located at 620 Lions Club Drive, Mableton 30126. 

SPARC (Sickness Prevention Achieved through Regional Collaboration) is a CDC- supported, evidence-based program aimed at increasing accessibility and utilization of core preventive health services by older adults.  SPARC events help the neediest older adults by bundling services and providing them in community-based settings.  SPARC events are possible through the broad-based participation of community partners.

Partner organizations, including WellStar Healthcare, Cobb & Douglas Public Health, Fuqua Center for Late Life Depression, Emory-Adventist Hospital, Atlanta Medical Center, Chattahoochee Technical College Nursing Program and others, will provide important immunizations and vital health screenings.   

The first 100 participants who participate in all five core screenings will receive a give-away of fresh fruits and vegetables. Additionally, AARP will help low-income individuals and families register for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (the new name for the federal Food Stamp Program) to help buy the food they need for good health. Additionally, gas cards will be provided to church groups who register in advance to cmayerik@atlantaregional.com to bring their older adults to the SPARC event.
