South Cobb Rotary Sponsors Garrett Essay Contest
The South Cobb Rotary is exceptionably honored to be involved in helping students increase their writing skills
Last Thursday the South, Rotary Club sponsored its annual essay contest for Garrett Middle School. This was the 38th year that the club has been a part of helping students achieve greater success in the writing skills. The program began in the school year 1975-76 and was the forerunner of the Cobb County Writing Fair.
This year’s topic was “How can Peace be Achieved through Service?"
The winners were: For the sixth grade: 1st Katie Junes, 2nd Evelyn Lewis, 3rd (tie) Thanh Danh and Jamya Langston
Their teacher was Ms. Michelle Burns

For the seventh Grade1st Ibrahim Raifu,2nd Kamiyah Smith, 3rd Michael Gilman

Eighth Grade1st Imani Bryant 2nd Cindy Emenalo, 3rd (tie) Mykael Brown and Adanze Nnyagu
Teachers: Ms. Monica Hobbs, Ms. Almeda Walker and Ms. Shantae Wilson
Each first-place winner received $100, second $50, and each third $25. In addition each winning teacher received $50.
For the eighth grade winner, Imani Bryant, it was her third first-place finish. Each first-place winners read their essay to the club and proud parents.
This years judges were: Dr. Marla Blackstone, Dr. Frank Crocker, Mr. Russ Fitzgerald and Mr. Terry Reckerd
