South Cobb Rotary Club Gears up for Empty Plate Gala

Annual fundraising event for C.A.M.P. in need of donations.

Fundraising efforts for the Empty Plate Gala, a charity dinner and silent auction event to benefit C.A.M.P., was the main topic of discussion at Thursday’s South Cobb Rotary Club weekly luncheon at .

Wayne Blackstone, president of the South Cobb Rotary Club, began the meeting with a brief discussion of the previous week’s minutes, and an introduction of new and visiting club members present at the meeting on Thursday.

Blackstone went on to speak about the upcoming charity event for C.A.M.P. and the need for the donation of additional items to be used for the silent auction at the Empty Plate Gala.

“Ticket sales are still low, and we need to secure more items for the auction. Anyone wanting to donate their services are also welcome. Even if it’s just mowing someone's lawn, everything we can put up will be appreciated," said Blackstone. “C.A.M.P. donations are significantly down this year, and they need our help more than ever.”

Also present at Thursday’s meeting was guest speaker Mark Johnson, corporate senior management speechwriter and mentalist, who wowed attendees with seemingly impossible demonstrations.

Johnson also spoke about the wonder of believing and how until you let go of the past and monotonous habits, you will never realize the potential hidden within yourself.

Johnson said, “Just because you don’t believe in something, doesn’t mean it’s not true. You will never feel so alive, as when you open your mind to different possibilities.”

Blackstone ended the meeting, by thanking Johnson for his inspirational talk, and presenting him with an honorary plaque from the South Cobb Rotary Club.
