So Long Blockbuster, Hello Awesome Movie Deals

The Mableton Blockbuster will shut its doors for good in about a month.

Some may have seen it coming, but the Β  is one of many in the Metro Atlanta set to close its doors. The Dallas Blockbuster store is the closest location to remain open in Metro Atlanta.

Blockbuster, once the leading provider of video and game rentals, hit financial troubles in 2010 when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after accumulating $1 billion in debt.

A few months ago, Dish Network purchased the chain, which has 1,700 locations, for $228 million, according to wire reports. After its acquisition, the network decided to continue operating 500 stores, leaving the other 1,200 locations eligible for purchase. It also moved to close all Blockbuster locations in Canada.

DVDs and Blu-Ray discs have been discounted to about $1.99 to $14.99. Most of the movies are marked to $9.99, but the store will continue markdowns until final closure.

The store stopped renting on Sunday, and posted signage about the store closure on Sunday night.

Additionally, the store is receiving new merchandise from other stores that have recently closed, so it’s a great time to beef up your movie collection.
