New Jennifer Lopez Movie Features Sons of Patch Columnist

Sammy and Asher Howard, who were once motherless, malnourished babies in Ethiopia, are now on big screens across the U.S.

and Metro Atlanta last August, also features the 2-year-old Ethiopian twins of South Cobb Patch dad columnist Kindred Howard and his wife, Meredith.

The couple adopted the twins, Sammy and Asher, about a year and a half ago when they were motherless, malnourished infants. Their mother had died and their grandmother and father had no food and fed them water for 10 days, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Scenes for What to Expect When You're Expecting—also starring Cameron Diaz, Rodrigo Santoro, Dennis Quaid and others—called for Ethiopian babies as extras, Fox 5 reports.

The station says that that's when the Howards answered the call, and their boys were picked to share the part of Lopez and Santoro's adopted son.

But Meredith Howard writes in her blog that all the attention isn't about her family, and she and her husband "are not Toddlers and Tiaras type of parents."

The Howards have two other sons, Carson and William and a 9-year-old daughter, Emerson. Before the birth of their daughter, Meredith Howard had three miscarriages and the couple had seriously considered adoption before they married.

It was the Haiti earthquake in 2010 that pushed them to make the decision to adopt. They were the only ones to respond to an email about the twin Ethiopian boys, thought to have special needs because one had meningitis and the other had sepsis. A week later, the couple was in Ethiopia, and the rest is history.

"We do want to get the word out about not only the horrible orphan crisis, but also—and equally as important, if not more so—the tragedy that befalls so many mommies in developing countries—death during childbirth," she writes. "It is wrong. It is preventable. It is sad and tragic, and should not be happening as much as it does."

On the set, Sammy bonded with Lopez, while Asher took to Santoro, People reports.

"So Sammy is the one you see in just about all of the scenes with Jennifer, and Asher is in the dude scene with Rodrigo,” Kindred Howard told the magazine. “Between shooting, Rodrigo was taking pictures on his phone of he and Asher. It was the sweetest thing.”

Internal Movie Database describes the movie: "A look at love through the eyes of five interconnected couples experiencing the thrills and surprises of having a baby, and ultimately coming to understand the universal truth that no matter what you plan for, life doesn't always deliver what's expected.

You can see the twins, as well as the movie's trailer, in the attached videos. Stories and reactions about the boys and their early rise to stardom are available in Meredith Howard's blog. Kindred Howard is a humorous writer and a Christian family and marriage coach.
