It's Going to Be a Busy Month at the Mable House & Barnes Amphitheatre

Here's a rundown of what's happening at South Cobb's arts and entertainment epicenter.

Although the Sept. 24 concert featuring Rush of Fools, Jimmy Needham and The Advice has been canceled, an abundance of exciting events are happening at the and in the next month.

  • Audition registration is open until Aug. 29 for the Theatre Project's big production of "Beauty and the Beast" at the Mable House Arts Center. Anyone from ages 9 to 18 can register to auditon. Older boys are being encouraged to auditon for the roles of the Beast and of Gaston. The auditions take place on Tuesday, Aug. 30. In addition to participating in the show, those selected will also learn from theatre classes included with the fee. For more information, call the center at 770-819-3285.
  • We certainly cannot overlook the much-anticipated show from Kayla Taylor Jazz as the fourth show of the 2011 South Cobb Arts Alliance's Summer Candlelite concert series. Bring a picnic and come early for the best seating. Food is also available at the concession stand. The gate opens at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tables, seating four people, are available for $50. Call the Mable House Arts Center at 770-819-3285 to reserve a table. There is no charge for the general seating area. Lawn chairs are not allowed. This is a rain or shine concert.
  • Another set of auditons will be held at the Mable House Arts Center on Sept. 1 for Atlanta Young Singers of Callanwolde. 5:30-7 p.m. Mable House Arts Center. For more information, call 404-873-3365 or email audition@aysc.org.
  • The 2011 Jazz Grooves Atlanta Smooth Music Festival will take place at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre on Sept. 17. TheΒ  event will feature smooth jazz super group Fattburger, Nick Colionne, Jackiem Joyner, Steve Oliver and local saxophonist Jeff Sparks. The gate will open at 12:30 p.m. and the show begins at 1:30 p.m. Lawn seating is $30, reserved seating is $58 or $62 and VIP tables that seat four are available for $85 per seat (must be bought as a complete table).   • Residents are also invited to the 13th annual Festival of Music at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. The free event is being called "a patriotic call for revival in America." The purpose of the concert is to honor history, heroes and heritage through music and narration. It will be presented by the music ministries at Due West United Methodist Church.   • Lastly, the 24th Annual National Juried Art Show at the Mable House Arts Center kicked off on Aug. 20 and will be open to the public until Oct. 3.
