Wine, Music, Stories, Hayrides and More in South Cobb

The Mable House complex is the place to be this weekend for music and fun, or take in the beauty of Fall, at Sweetwater Creek State Park.

It’ll be a full day of good old-fashioned fun and entertainment this Saturday, at the , during the center's 2011 Storytelling Festival, being held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Listen to stories told by professional storytellers such as Josie Bailey, Joanna Maddox, Barry Stewart Mann, and others, as well as enjoying a day of hayrides, music, puppet shows, panning for gold, a petting zoo, pony rides and so much more. The event is free, with an assortment of fresh baked goods, barbecue and candied favorites for sale on-site. Check this link for further information.

If a storytelling festival complete with hayrides isn’t enough for one day, be sure to stick around the complex on Saturday, for an afternoon and evening of musical mayhem, at the Mableton Rocks Music Festival starting at 3 p.m. in the . Just $15 for general seating or $25 for premium table seating, will gain you entrance to see eight different live rock bands including Cosmic Gypsies, The High Beams, JB Walker and the Cheap Whiskey Band, and the Stevie Nicks tribute band, White Winged Dove, to name just a few. Proceeds will go to benefit the Amateur Advocate Association, a non-profit organization which offers services for at-risk youths, and local community development programs. New Orleans may have Marti Gras, but Mableton has Parti Gras, a must attend affair for all wine and craft beer aficionados. This Friday, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., at the, Parti Gras Wine Expo IV, will be in full swing with over 30 different varietals and vintages of some of the best wine available, as well as limited releases and special selections of finely crafted beers. Food pairings will be offered from Chef Antoinette of A.K.A. Catering and Chef Sid Blackwell II of Aquarius Catering, along with live music from classical guitarist Raphael Williams, and DJ, MJ, who will be spinning hot musical releases to keep you gliding on the dance floor. There will also be some fantastic door prizes for attendees. Tickets are $35 per person, or $25 per person for parties of five or more, and must be purchased prior to the event. No tickets will be sold at the door, and attendees must be 21 years or older. Sundays were made for relaxation, and enjoying some time with the family, and this Sunday is no exception. Grab the kids and the family pooch, and come on out to Boxerstock 2011, being held at , from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a day full of fun in the sun. This family friendly event is being sponsored by , with proceeds benefiting Atlanta Boxer Rescue.  There will be a variety of events including live music from local and national artists (see the line up here), as well as canine demonstrations, a silent auction, games and face painting for the kids, vendor booths, a leash-free mini dog park, Mr. D’s BBQ stand, and much, much more. Advance tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students, military personnel, seniors and children under 12, or at the gate for $10 per adult, and $7 for students, military personnel, seniors and children under 12. Grandparents are a special breed of individuals, who link us to our past and generations that came before us with tales of yesteryear, and what life was like without that all important cell phone or computer.To commemorate these special  people in our lives, the is holding a Grandparent Story Time on Friday, from 3:30 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Kids can share and listen to others’ stories about their own grandparents.

Fall is that time of year, when nature treats us to dropping temperatures, and awe inspiring colors of the Autumn leaves. To see this spectacle, in all it’s splendor, be sure to visit this Saturday from 1 p.m to 4 p.m.., to participate in the Fall Color Eastside Hike, that will take attendees on a moderate three mile hike through the east side of the park. Hikers will visit the “Indian Cave”, as well as other seldom visited sites in the park. The cost is $7 per person, plus a $5 parking fee. Call 770-732-5871 to reserve your space.

It’s time once again, for the annual City of Smyrna, Fall Jonquil Festival this weekend, happening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The arts and crafts market will feature over 175 vendors from across the U.S., along with a kid’s zone with master puppeteer, Peter Hart, a fresh harvest market, and live music from acoustical musician Scott Thompson. The event is free and will be held at the community/shopping center.
