Weekend Planner: Nab Unique Gifts at Austell Community Market & More

The city of Austell hosts a family day out, and Triumphant Community Church "gives back" to the community.

If you’re still looking for a few unique gift ideas, or just want to enjoy the beautiful fall weather while it’s still here, be sure to visit the this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will take place on the corner of Jefferson and Mulberry Streets in downtown Austell, and will be showcasing a wide variety of merchandise, including arts and crafts, from a host of talented craftsmen. There will also be fun activities for the kids, plenty of great food from local vendors, as well as music and karaoke singing throughout the day, spun by DJ Dice. Parking and entry to the event is free.

Come enjoy a day of shopping and being pampered while helping to support those in need, by attending the Pamper and Precious Jewels event, being held on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the . The event is being sponsored  by LA Lynn’s jewelry and accessories and Beyond Greatness Event Planning, in partnership with Hosea Feed the Hungry. LA Lynn’s will be selling unique and stylish jewelry and the ladies of Beyond Greatness will provide sample massages and hand scrubs. Refreshments will also be served. A portion of the profits will go to benefit Hosea Feed the Hungry. Entrance to the event is free, but donations are welcome.

November is Native American Heritage month, and the is inviting kids age five years and older and adults, to attend a commemorative story time on Friday, beginning at 3:30 p.m. This event will feature Native American stories, songs, and cultural information. The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required.

The holiday season is a time for giving, and in Austell, is hosting a free Thanksgiving community luncheon for families in need, this Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The church’s goal, is to serve 300 local families and individuals, in an effort to “give back” to the community of Austell and surrounding areas. If you are interested in helping to prepare or serve the meal, or would like to make a donation to help assist those who are less fortunate, please contact the church office at 678-797-9970.

If you thought parks were just for walking around in the woods all day, think again. is now offering an introductory class on Wildlife Painting. Participants will be given the chance to create their own original paintings of mounted animals and birds, allowing for the ability to view fur and feathers up close, and the composition of accurate proportions. The first class is being held Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at a cost of $10 per person, and includes acrylic paint, paper and brush supplies. Register in advance by calling 770-732-5871. A $5 parking fee is also required.

It’s Vegas in Vinings this Saturday, with the Sixth Annual Casino and Auction Night event, being held at the from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. This black-tie affair, will feature Vegas-style casino games, silent and live auctions, and a variety of tasty hors d'oeuvres and cocktails available from a cash bar. Tickets are $25 per person, with proceeds going to benefit the general operation of the Dream Makers Youth Foundation, which includes  the S.T.A.R.S.
