Veterans' Day Events in and around South Cobb

On Veterans Day, Americans take this time to recognize the military service and in some cases, the lives, that soldiers have given for their freedom. Here are ways to celebrate in the South Cobb and nearby communities on Friday.

  • All veterans in the community are invited to attend ’s Veterans Day celebration beginning at 1 p.m. in the school’s gym.
  •  Crossroads Hospice will honor 30 veterans on Friday at Austell’s at 2000 East-West Connector at 10 a.m. Each of the veterans will receive a certificates and pins as family and friends wave American flags in their honor.
  •  From now through Jan. 2, the is hosting exhibit which explores the history and heroism of the first African-American pilots to fly in combat during WWII.
  •  Douglasville will host its 12th  annual Veterans Day Lighted Parade at 7 p.m. on Friday. This year’s parade will be led by members of the Sweetwater and Town and Country Garden Clubs, who will carry 48 roses in honor and memory of the 48 Douglas County citizens who have been killed in action. Bagpipers will lead the opening music and will be accompanied by veterans bearing U.S. flags.

The parade begins at Douglas County High School; then proceeds north on Campbellton Street; west on Church Street; and south on Bowden, Woodrow and Campbellton Streets back to the high school. The parade is organized and presented on behalf of the veterans of Douglas County by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners through its Department of Communications and Community Relations.
