This Weekend is Full of Art and High Energy in South Cobb

Check out weekend events in and around South Cobb.

This weekend will be filled with higher temperatures as well as showers, but there is still plenty to do in and around South Cobb. Just bust out those rainboots.

Get cultured and take in some artwork from women around the state of Georgia at the Mable House Arts Center on Saturday night at 7 until 9 for the reception kickoff of the Third Virginia Avery Memorial "REFLECTIONS" Juried Art Exhibition, which runs through March 1. The event, sponsored by the South Cobb Arts Alliance, is entirely free. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

It feels good to do something good. Made a New Year’s resolution to give back to your community? Here’s a great chance on Saturday morning. Join in with the Mableton Improvement Coalition for the group’s quarterly litter pick-up along a one-mile stretch of Floyd Road. Meet at 9 a.m. at Pizza Hut on Floyd Road. Latex gloves, hand wipes, trash bags, vests and bottled water will all be provided. It usually takes less an hour to clean up the designated mile from Hicks Road to Clay Road. Children must be 13 or older and accompanied by a consenting parent or guardian to be eligible to participate. Staycation Pick: Last January, Georgians were pleading for no more white stuff. It’s OK to admit that you miss it a little bit. We won’t tell. If you’ve got a snow jones, you can get your fix at Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain Park, U.S. Highway 78 East, exit 8 in Stone Mountain. Snow Mountain is filled with fun activities like a 400-foot tubing hill and snowball-shooting machines, along with a play area just for the little ones. On Sundays, admission is only $19.99 per person. Click here for more information.
