  • Our newest Local Voices blogger, Mableton beekeeper Mary Cahill-Roberts, took home first place for her creamed honey and second in cut comb honey made by the bees of the Historic Mableton Community Garden on Floyd Road. The competition was the Eastern Apiculture Society's Annual Bee conference in Providence, R.I. Congratulations Mary!
  •  There are still 1,000 or more  reservations available for free breakfast entrees of your choice at the and others nearby. Reservations are from Sept. 6-10. Entrees include the chicken biscuit, spicy chicken biscuit, sausage biscuit, chick-n-minis, chicken egg & cheese bagel, bacon egg & cheese biscuit, chicken breakfast burrito, sausage breakfast burrito and the new multigrain oatmeal.

Also, it's Insider Thursday today, so you can get a free brownie with any purchase from the Chick-Fil-A on Austell Road by mentioning "fabulous fudge." One brownie per customer.

  •  Qualifying ended for the Nov. 8 Austell city election with incumbent Joe Jerkins running for mayor; incumbent Scott Thomas for Ward 2; Cobb Taxpayers Association head Lance Lamberton and incumbent Virginia Reagan for Ward 4 and  incumbent Randy Green and former paraprofessional for At-Large Post 2.
  • South Cobb Commissioner Woody Thompson will hold a Town Hall meeting on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at the at 620 Lions Club Drive in Mableton.  The topic of the meeting will be the new South Cobb Implementation Strategy, which draws on previous studies and plans in South Cobb.  The strategy combines the visions created for the area, including projects like the recent Mableton Form-Based Code and the River Line master plan, in one document. It is attached to this article.
  • Tonight, the freshmen football teams for both South Cobb area high schools face off at Pebblebrook High. The versus game begins at 5:30 p.m.
