Six Flags Drive HAWK Signal Begins Operation Tuesday

Cobb DOT will hold a public meeting about the HAWK signals on Monday and be on hand to assist pedestrians on Tuesday.

Six Flags Drive will be a little safer now that the county's first hybrid beacon pedestrian signals will begin operation on Tuesday.

The mid-block crossing signal is known as a HAWK signal, which operates similarly to a button-activated traffic signal. HAWK is an acronym for High-intensity Activated crossWalK.

Cobb Department of Transportation officials will hold a public meeting on Monday at the from 6-8 p.m. to educate residents in the area about the HAWK signals.

Also, on Tuesday, county staff will offer assistance for pedestrians using the signals from 10-11 a.m. and 2-3 p.m.

In late March, Construction of new sidewalks, from Crestside Drive to Interstate 20 westbound on-ramp at Riverside Parkway, began in early May.

The HAWK signal on Six Flags Drive is an approved project in the Sidewalk Component of the 2005 Transportation Improvement Program and is also designated as a Georgia Department of Transportation project.
