Man Drowns in Lake Lanier on Labor Day

A Labor Day outing at Lake Lanier ended tragically for a 25-year-old Doraville man. 

Authorities say Kyle Miller was swimming across a cove at the day use area of Van Pugh Parkwith two other people just before 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3 when he went under.

His body was recovered in about 15 feet of water by the Hall County Dive Team at about 4:22 p.m.

Missing UGA Student Found Dead

Gwinnett County Police confirmed that the body discovered in the single vehicle accident on Highway 316 was that of missing UGA student, Quinton Ayers, 22.

Cpl. Jake Smith, public information officer with the GCPD, confirmed that the vehicle Ayers was found in was a match to the black GMC pickup he was last seen driving.

"The vehicle was found about 40 feet from the roadway. It was resting on its side and appeared to have hit a tree at significant speed," Smith said in a press release. "The vehicle was called in by a passing tractor trailer driver, who could just make out the truck's undercarriage from his elevated position."

Nude Mural in East Atlanta Gets Temporary Reprieve

The Chosewood Park mural that  over its nude imagery, is not getting repainted after all.

At least, not yet.

11Alive News reported the mural, painted by Argentinean artist Hyuro, will stay, pending the outcome of a Sept. 10 meeting of neighborhood residents.

The mural, which was painted as part of the Living Walls Conference, was to have been , after the owner of the former General Motors Lakewood Plant decided the attention and controversy was too much. 

Atlanta Man Shoots Would-Be Home Invaders

According to Atlanta Police reports and reporting done by WSB Radio, it has been determined that at least one robbery suspect was shot and another was badly beaten by the Southwest Atlanta homeowner who lives on Dill Avenue.

According to the police report, "On 09/01/2012, at approximately 22:36 officers were dispatched to 1000 Dill Ave SW in reference to a shots fired call that subsequently turned into a person shot."  Witnesses corroborate the homeowners story that these 2 individuals broke into his house and after a struggle, the homeowner was able to wrestle away the weapon.  He, in turn, shot one of the home invaders and began beating up the other "because he feared for his life."
