Music, Free Movie for the Kids and Fine Dining in South Cobb

Enjoy an afternoon of live jazz performances at the Barnes Amphitheatre, or celebrate National Hispanic Heritage month at the South Cobb Library.

Enjoy some “me-time” this weekend, and let your teenagers enjoy a fun movie out for just $1, at the this Friday night starting at 7 p.m. . is hosting the youth movie night, with a showing of “The Chaperone,” a PG-13 rated movie starring the WWE wrestling superstar, Ray Bradstone. The pure sounds of a consummate jazz musician can take a listener’s mind to parts unknown. This Saturday, the will delight jazz and music lovers alike, with an all day jazz fest beginning at 1:30 p.m. This fourth annual Jazz Grooves Atlanta Smooth Music Festival, will feature such artists as local christian/jazz musician Jeff Sparks, a No. 1 position Billboard Chart musician, Steve Oliver, and the “Smooth Jazz Super Group,” Fattburger to name just a few. VIP and reserved seating tickets are available at prices ranging from $58 to $85 per person, with general lawn seating tickets at $30 per person. The is helping to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage month by hosting a free story time for children ages 5 and up this Saturday from 3:30 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Attendees will hear and share special stories celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans, whose ancestors traveled here from such countries as Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. National Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

Going green is a term most of us hear a lot these days. Learn more about this “green” phenomenon and have a fun-filled day all at the same time this Saturday at the Second Annual "A Day With Earth Saver Girl" event at the . There will be several earth-friendly vendors and exhibits along with activities including kickball, hula hoop, dancing, basketball and jump rope contests, arts and crafts, face painting, free nutritional snacks, pet adoptions and much, much more. Those bringing an electronic item for recycling, will receive a prize. The event is free, and runs from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.

There’s no better time to try a taste of delicious cuisine from some of Cobb County’s favorite restaurants, than during the Third Annual Cobb County Restaurant Week, happening now through Sept. 17. Just $20 gets you a three course prix fixe menu selection at a variety of restaurants located throughout the Cobb County community. Lunch and dinner menus are both available. It’ll be a day full of food, fun and live entertainment for the entire family this Saturday, at theTaste of Smyrna Festival of Delectible event being held in the shopping complex in downtown Smyrna. The free event will begin at 11 a.m., and will offer a selection of food items from several local restaurants priced from $.50 to $4 per sampling. Musical offerings by acoustical artist Scott Thompson will be heard throughout the day, ending with an evening performance by the Francisco Vidal Band at 7 p.m. There will also be a special Kids Zone with a variety of inflatables featuring a 33-foot shark slide.
