“It’s nice that it’s real,” Mayerik said, “and that we have the leadership to continue it. We hope to have many more events here in the garden.”

Local Girl Scouts from the Sleepy Hollow Troop 21 in Mableton helped create a compost bin for the garden as part of their Gold Award projects.

Karen Faucett is a co-leader of the troop, along with Janice Camp.

Faucett said about the troop members, “I think it’s really important that they get involved in their community, and they really do give back.”

Children (and adults) played in the dirt and even found a few vegetables to take home to eat later.

Rose Haughton, a member of the garden’s membership team, said the garden has been a great way to connect to her new Mableton community.
