Lunch Break: Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful

During lunch break, chat about hot topics or ask questions about places, people and issues in South Cobb.

Welcome to South Cobb Patch's Lunch Break. Kick back where you are–at home taking a break from housework, browsing on your Smartphone while grabbing a bite for lunch or maybe at work browsing for a little bit (we won't tell)– and gather around this virtual water cooler.

This is a time to chat about hot topics, trends and issues that are all the buzz in South Cobb. Pop in and add your two cents and have a good time chatting with your neighbors!

  • Sunday alcohol sales go into effect on Sunday for Austell. The measure passed when 59 percent of the Austell voters supported the referendum in the March 6 election. Many believe that if people are going to buy alcohol, buying it on Sunday should not make much difference and could help bring in more revenue for business owners and municipalities. Others argue that Sunday should be a holy day when alcohol is not for sale. What are your thoughts that the first day of Sunday alcohol sales for many Cobb cities is on Easter/Resurrection Sunday?

  • Speaking of Easter, doesn't it seem that Easter egg hunts are no longer hunts, but are now Easter egg walk-around-and-pick-ups? That's what our hilarious dad columnist, Kindred Howard, thinks. Read

  • Journalist Samantha Brick is a hot topic on Twitter in the Metro Atlanta area. Brick wrote this piece about how tough it's been being being hated by women because she's just oh, so beautiful. (I personally don't see it. She's no Cindy Crawford, Christie Brinkley or Halle Berry–who are all older than she is, by the way.) What do you think? Is she being hated because of her looks or because of her attitude? A therapist, Marisa Peer, is cited in the article stating that women have always compared themselves to each other based on looks, not achievement. Do you agree?

  • On March 13, the Atlanta Journal Constitution ran a piece about people who are happily single and even featured Murika Erving of Austell. About 50 percent of all American adults are single, according to the Pew Research Center. Today, in Atlanta and in South Cobb, the topic #I'mSingleBecause is trending on Twitter. Are you single? Why?

Here's why people in Mableton and Austell say they're single:

  • from @Only1JHolding: #ImSingleBecause women seem not able to understand my child comes before them.
  • from @HumororTruth: #ImSingleBecause a relationship is between 2 people, but most people don't know how to count these days.
  • from @classylady11: #ImSingleBecause I haven't been given a reason to commit yet.
  • from @heyflawless: #ImSingleBecause I am trying to have 3 degrees by the time I am 25 .. #strong black woman
