Legion Park Hosts Grand Opening and Other South Cobb News You Can Use

South Cobb is a busy place these days, but South Cobb Patch is here to keep you informed and updated on the latest news you can use.

  • The long wait is finally over! , the Austell city park that has been closed since the September 2009 floods, will officially reopen with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 18 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Rising sixth graders and parents can take a tour of today at 3 p.m., and on Thursday, the school will host its Rising Sixth Graders’ Parent Night at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Sixth Grade Spring Concert at 7 p.m. The will also be at 7 p.m. For more information about the Floyd tours or parent night, call 770-819-2453 ext. 247 to reserve a spot.
  • Cobb County will host its 27th annual prayer breakfast on Thursday in observance of the National Day of Prayer. Members of the Smyrna-based Atlanta Freethought Society and American Atheists plan to protest the event, according to this post from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Tickets are $20 each. Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins and other Austell public officials plan to attend the event.
  • Besides being the National Day of Prayer, Thursday is also Cinco de Mayo, and most of South Cobb (along with the rest of Cobb County residents) will be at , where they hold what has become Cobb County’s largest Cinco de Mayo celebration. One server told South Cobb Patch on Monday that to get a seat, you may want to get to the restaurant around 2:30 p.m.

Mexico Lindo will also have its tonight at 7.

  • For those looking for another type of Cinco de Mayo celebration, get active with , a combination of Latin dance, kickboxing and fitness fun, at 7:15 p.m. at .
