Great Music, Summer Fitness and a Wild West Fest this Weekend in South Cobb

Come out for a community volleyball tournament in Austell or listen to jazz under the stars in Mableton.

The weekend is almost here, and it’s time to relax. Check out these activities for some end-of-the-workweek fun.

It’s game day at the . in cooperation with , will be hosting a community volleyball tournament on Sunday beginning at 3:30 p.m. This is the fourth tournament being held to help foster fellowship between churches located in the South Cobb area. Participants do not need to be members of the church , just come on out and have fun with other local residents. Call 678-653-0331 for further information.

Get a start on summer fitness by attending free weekly boot camps sponsored by Boot Camp Revolution. Come out to Nickajack Park at 8 a.m. every Saturday to experience a variety of exercise routines and workouts. Boot Camp Revolution is promoting their four week fitness program with these free introductory classes. Be sure to bring a water bottle, yoga mat and hand weights to participate in all activities

Spend a beautiful evening under the stars while listening to a free gospel jazz concert. The will be hosting this event on June 24 beginning at 7 p.m. Jazz saxophonist Reginald “DLaniger” Harris will be on hand to perform original music designed to soothe the soul and uplift the spirit.

There’s nothing like a live band to get the weekend started right and the Bobby Martin Band does it like no other. This Saturday night the band will be rockin’ down the house at beginning at 9 p.m. A favorite locals band, Bobby Martin heats up the room performing a variety of musical genres designed to get you on your feet and dancing the night away.

Saturday is the Cobb Library Foundation’s Wild West Fest day at . From 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. visitors can experience what is was like to live in the days of cowboys and gunslingers with lasso lessons, quick draw demonstrations, chuck wagon cooking and live wild west music. Take a step back in time and have your photo taken in 1800’s attire or try some sarsaparilla at the “Cactus Rose Saloon”. Tickets are $12 per guest with children under 3 years old admitted free.

Learn to identify wildlife tracks and remains like a professional. Visit this Saturday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. for a “Skins and Skulls Wildlife ID Class” taught by a real life tracker. This is an inside class being held in the Interpretive Center. Admission is $5 per person with a $5 parking fee.

Lauretta Hannon, famous author of “The Cracker Queen” will be hosting the grand opening of her new literary loft, The Hive, this Saturday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Hannon’s book details her life while growing up in Georgia and includes colorful characters and family members she encounters along the way. Come out and see a photo exhibit of some of the most memorable people and places mentioned in the book while sipping on white lightnin’ lemonade. The event is free to the public with the first twenty to arrive receiving a special goodie bag. The Hive is located at 4499 Town Square in Powder Springs. Call 770-943-6222 for further information.
