Get Your Fill of Free Music and Learn to Paint This Weekend in South Cobb

Enjoy free Christian music at Six Flags Over Georgia or make it dinner and a concert at Stella's Neighborhood Grill.

Before getting stuck in that back-to-school routine, come out to Six Flags Over Georgia this weekend for a good Christian rock concert. Three nationally known acts,  Red, Leeland and Jonny Diaz, will have the crowd on its feet with their inspirational musical renditions. The concert starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday, at the Southern Star Amphitheater and is free with park admission. Check this link for ticket pricing.

Grab the kids and head on over to this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. for a free workshop where children ages 5 to 12 can make their own back-to-school pencil box holder. Families can enjoy a little quality time together while the kids gain a sense of achievement by building something themselves. Kids get to keep their project as well as a free workshop apron, special pin and a certificate of completion.

Try your hand at landscape painting this weekend at the Red Cockerill Gallery in Austell. The workshop fee is $25 and includes instruction by the owner and professional artist Ann Cockerill as well as all art supplies. The class will be held on Saturday, starting at 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. The theme for this Saturday is “Paint a European Scene”. Don’t worry if you’re not a skilled painter, all are welcome.

Start the weekend out right at  this Friday by stopping in for a hot meal and a cool libation while enjoying free music performed by the Secret Weapon band. Secret Weapon plays covers of all your favorite 1980s tunes and is guaranteed to get you dancing the night away. The show starts at 8 p.m.

For anyone looking to extend the weekend that little bit longer or, if you just want to get out of the house and have a couple of cold ones before the work week starts all over again, stop by on Sunday afternoons for their $1 off all beers special. Catch a game on TV or just hang out with friends and enjoy the vibe.

Spend some time in the great outdoors this weekend by attending a fun “Butterfly Safari” at . This guided tour will lead you through 80 acres of open grassland searching for beautiful butterflies like the Tiger Swallowtail and the Fiery Skipper to name a few. The safari starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday and ends at 1 p.m. There is a $5 fee to attend with an additional $5 for parking. Pre-registration is required so call 770-732-7275 to reserve your spot today.

Put on your dancing shoes and come to the “Summer Concert Series/Smyrna Birthday Celebration” this Saturday in the starting at 6 p.m. Enjoy a free concert by the Brandon Perry Band followed by the well-known musical group Banks and Shane. There will be plenty of kids’ activities, food, a giant birthday cake and fireworks to top off the evening. An on-site beer garden will also be available for adults.
