Free Music, Chili Cook-Off, Party to Cure Cancer & More This Weekend in South Cobb

Eat it if you can, for a free season pass at Six Flags, or catch the last candlelight concert at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheater this weekend.

Time to get out and enjoy free music at the this weekend, as the final concert in the South Cobb Arts Alliance Summer Candlelite Concert Series, is being held Saturday, beginning at 8 p.m. Blair Crimmins and the Hookers, will be heating up the night, with their ragtime, high energy New Orleans Dixieland musical renditions, sure to get your head bobbing and your toes tapping.  Lawn seating is free, but tables that seat four are available for $50 each. The concert will be held rain or shine, and no lawn chairs are allowed for this performance.

You know Fall has arrived, when home cooks and professionals, start vying for bragging rights at local chili contests. It’s South Cobb’s turn this year however, with the presentation of the first ever,, being held Saturday at . There will be a variety of local residents and businesses competing to be named the best chili maker in South Cobb, along with live music, and plenty of fun for the entire the family. The festivities start at 1 p.m., so be sure to come out and vote for your favorite chili concoction.

This is one swap meet, all you fashion lovers out there don’t want to miss. , at 688 Puckett Dr., in Mableton,  will be holding a community clothing swap on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. Give your wardrobe a remix makeover, by bringing at least from one to eight, new or nearly new items, including clothing, handbags, belts, hats, scarves, shoes, etc., to swap for other items. All clothing should be cleaned and pressed, and on hangers. The event is free, and attendees will receive one ticket per trade-in item they bring. No more than eight items per person will be allowed. Visitors to Six Flags Over Georgia this Saturday, will have the opportunity to win 2012 season passes in a very unusual way. At 6 p.m., in the Cafe Du Cockroach in the Mariner’s Cove Theater, park goers who successfully consume Madagascar hissing cockroaches, will walk away with a free season pass to Six Flags, good for use in 2012. For those with the stomach for it, that’s a sweet deal. The cockroaches however, will not be so sweet. Diners and/or spectators alike are welcome, at this creepy crawly event.

Join in keeping our national parks pristine and beautiful this weekend, by coming out and attending the Rivers Alive Clean-up effort at , being held on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. This annual event, is a great way to show your support for the state park system, and spend some quality time outdoors helping out. October is breast cancer awareness month, and will culminate in the annual Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure walking event. Help support this worthy cause and have some fun too, by attending a 3-Day Kick-Off Party, being held at the on Friday, from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m. The event is being hosted by a local group of cure for cancer walkers known as Foxs Trotters, and is geared toward collecting further donations for the upcoming walk on October 21 -23. The kick-off party will include live music, performed by R&B, jazz and soul sensation, Mimi Johnson, great food, raffle tickets, a photo booth and as much dancing as your feet can handle. Tickets are just $10, but any additional donations will be greatly appreciated. This is an adults only event.
