Fourth of July Celebrations and More This Weekend in South Cobb

Have a day full of fun and a night full of fireworks at Six Flags in Austell, or kick up your heels to free live music at Mexico Lindo.

South Cobb has plenty to offer this Fourth of July weekend. Pick your favorite from the list below.

In an effort to help connect teens and foster an atmosphere of support, in conjunction with Teens What’s the Rush Inc. and , will be hosting a “Celebrate Life....Youth Summit” this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the . The event will address subjects such as coping with peer pressure, teenage pregnancy, underage drinking and more, as told through the poetry, music, dance and drama of other teens. Style Success Fashion consulting company will also be on hand to offer free advice and guidance about entering the workforce and tips on how to succeed. This event is free to kids in grades 6 through 12 and their parents. Just about everyone loves fireworks, and with many cities throughout the nation lighting up the skies with vibrant displays this Independence Day, Austell is no exception. Head on over to Six Flags Over Georgia this Fourth of July and make it a fun-filled day of roller coaster rides, bumper car racing, free concerts and more ending with a spectacular fireworks celebration at dark. For those looking for a more home based Fourth of July celebration, come and join in the fun at the 16th Annual Independence Day Celebration being held at the Powder Springs Town Square this weekend. Starting at 4 p.m. on July 4, this free event will have live music, plenty of fun for the kids, a variety of great food for purchase and will end with a beautiful fireworks display. Randy and Spiff from the Atlanta radio station FM 106.7 will also be on hand to keep things lively. is taking the heat out of those hot summer nights with the cool jazz stylings of Joel Cruickshank this Friday from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  Stop in and enjoy exceptional Southern cuisine while being serenaded by Cruickshank’s skillful performances on the saxophone of original rhythm and blues music mixed with a touch of Caribbean soul.

If chilling out isn’t quite what you’re looking for this holiday weekend, be sure to check out on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for live acoustical music and “hot” food and drink specials. The fun starts at 7 p.m. each night and runs until 10 p.m. Good times are sure to be had at this locals favorite spot where the waiters are friendly and the beer is always cold.

Parades and music and carnivals, oh my! There will something for everyone this Fourth of July with Marietta’s annual Independence Day parade on the square beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. Over 2000 participants are expected to join in the parade extravaganza that begins at Roswell Street Baptist Church and ends at North Marietta Pkwy. The fun runs all day long with over ninety arts and crafts vendors, food concessions, carnival games and live music. The evening ends with a glorious fireworks display starting at 9:30 p.m. Tickets for the carnival games and food can be purchased at individual booths and the rest is free.

Paddle away this Friday at starting at 8 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Enjoy a peaceful twilight canoe expedition and catch a sunset view nature in all it’s splendor. Participants must be 18 years and older and be able to swim. Tickets are $15 each with a $5 parking fee.
