Fill Your Weekend With Free Music, an Art Show or a 5K Run in South Cobb

Come out and be "appreciated" at Mexico Lindo this weekend, or take in a free concert at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre.

Be sure not to miss “20th Anniversary/Customer Appreciation Day” happening this Saturday. JB Walker and the Cheap Whiskey Band will be playing live in the parking lot, and all draft beers will be $2 for a 16-ounce glass. There will also be outdoor grilling and a t-shirt giveaway. The event will be going on all day, so grab your friends and neighbors and enjoy the festivities.

Atlanta-based artist Hugh Vaughn and his screaming guitar will be making two command performances at on Friday and Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. Guaranteed to get the house rockin’, stop in early for dinner and end the night dancing to this locals’ favorite band.

The , will be hosting its third free “Candlelite Concert” this weekend, featuring music by Roxie Watson. This five-piece string band will be performing what the band refers to as “alterna-grass” style music which is a combination of bluegrass, western and blues, soul, zydeco and country. The concert will be held on Saturday with the gates opening at 7 p.m. and music starting at 8 p.m. Lawn and general seating is free but, please note no lawn chairs are allowed. The in Mableton will be holding their family “Summer Fest” on Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Pack up the kids and bring your neighbors for an afternoon of fun and fellowship including, a picnic, games, prizes and more. Call 770-948-8504 for further information.

Enjoy beautiful works of art in all types of media and meet the artists who created them by attending the 24th National Juried Art Exhibition at the Sponsored by the South Cobb Arts Alliance, the awards reception “meet and greet” will be taking place on Saturday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the exhibit available for public viewing through October 3.

Show your support for a healthier lifestyle by attending the 5K Race to Health and one-mile family fun run on Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. with registration beginning at 7 a.m. A health-conscious breakfast will be served at 9 a.m., with more  activities including  a health and wellness expo, live music and a bounce house for kids. Registration fees are $25 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile family fun run. Kids under 10 years old run for free. Check this link for further information or to register for the race.

Visit this Saturday and learn all about collecting, preparing and the medicinal purposes of wild-growing edible plants. A short hike is required, so wearing comfortable shoes and using nsect repellent is advised. This informative walk in the wilderness starts at 11 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. so attendees should bring a sack lunch. A $5 fee is required as well as $5 for parking.
