Document Shredding, Textile Collection, Electronic Recycling Event

Celebrated annually on Nov. 15, America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy-recycled products.

Keep Cobb Beautiful has joined forces with local recycling companies to give residents a chance to recycle clothes, household linen, shoes, electronics, document shredding and latex paint disposal.

The event takes place on Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jim Miller Park and gives residents a chance to clean up their homes just before the holiday season.

Items Accepted:

• Document Shredding (provided by Iron Mountain): Free: Only paper products, no CDs, floppy disks, cardboard or large binders with metal rings or clips
• Textile Collection (provided by USAgain): Shoes, clothing and other textiles: Free
• Electronic Recycling (provided by Advanced Disposal Services)
  Electronics accepted at no charge; $10 processing fee for televisions (cash only)
• Latex Paint Recycling/Disposal (provided by Advanced Disposal Services): $4 per gallon fee (cash only); Paint must be in original, clearly-labeled, non-leaking container and cannot be mixed with anything, including other paint. No oil or alkyd paint

"Appliance Amnesty" will also take place 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Cobb County Transfer Station, 1897 County Services Parkway, Marietta. Recycling appliances with Freon/refrigerant will be only $5, instead of the normal $12.

“Cobb County is committed to educating the citizens of Cobb about the benefits of recycling and motivating the community to recycle throughout the year," said Jonathan A. Jenkins, Solid Waste Division Director for the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs Department of Cobb County Government.

"Textile recycling is a huge issue in this country; according to the EPA, Americans discard approximately 13.1 million tons of textiles annually. Only 15 percent of that is collected for reuse and recycling — leaving 11.2 million tons of textiles to be dumped in our nation’s landfills,” said Mattias Wallander, CEO of USAgain.  “We’re thrilled to partner with Keep Cobb Beautiful to raise awareness about the need for increased textile recycling in the community.”
