Dance 4 Your Life and More This Weekend in South Cobb
Enjoy dancing and discount coupons at Six Flags or take in a free concert in the park in Austell.
Weekends were made for dancing, so be sure not to miss the “2011 National Dance Day/Dance 4 Your Life” event being held at Six Flags Over Georgia on July 30, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Professional dancers in association with the popular TV show “So You Think You Can Dance” will be on hand to instruct participants in a variety of dance moves. This event is sponsored by the Dizzy Feet Foundation and the Larry King Cardiac Foundation in an effort to promote daily dance as an effective exercise to increase health and fitness for all ages. The dance-off is free and discount tickets to Six Flags will be available to attendees who would like to visit the park afterwards. A $15 parking fee is also required.
The only thing better than a concert under the stars, is a free concert under the stars. Head on over to John L Collar Park in Austell this Saturday for a “Campmeetin’ In The Park” hosted by The event starts at 7 p.m. and includes gospel music performances by The Nelons and Enlisted. A concession stand will be available so the only thing you need to bring are lawn chairs or blankets. Show up early and make a day of it by enjoying the picnic areas and walking trail.

The Austell Community Taskforce in association with “We Thrive On The Drive” community advocacy group is holding their annual “Austell Back to School Jam” on July 30, beginning at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This fun event is open to all and kids from pre-k to 12th grade will receive a free backpack loaded with school supplies. Food and drink will be available for purchase, all under $3.
Well known jazz saxaphonist Joel Cruickshank will be playing “music to soothe the soul” this weekend at locals’ favorite Mableton Cafe restaurant. Stop in tonight at 7 p.m. and enjoy classic southern cuisine with a healthy flair and unwind to the island/jazz blues musical styling of this consummate musician.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God is hosting a back-to-school health screening and cook-out on July 30 beginning at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Victory International Center in Mableton. This free event is open to everyone and school supplies will be given away on a first-come-first-serve basis. This ranger-led outing on the lake begins at 8 p.m. and for a $15 fee includes the canoe, paddle and life jacket. Attendees must be swimmers, 18 years and older. A $5 parking fee is also required.
