Austell Seeks Demolition Proposals for Flood-Damaged Homes

The city is seeking asbestos removal and structure demolition proposals for the 19 flood-damaged homes the city purchased as part of a flood mitigation project.

The City of Austell is one step closer to demolishing the homes that were destroyed and then acquired by the city as part of a buyout program, the , which cost the city $2.9 million.

They are extending a request for proposals to inspect and remove asbestos from 19 homes purchased by the city. This removal process must be done before demolishing the homes.

On Thursday, the city will hold its pre-request for proposal conference from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in suite 107 of the Threadmill Complex. The conference will be held in two sessions, the first one for asbestos abatement contractors and the second for structure demolition contractors.

Interested parties can pick up the RFP packages at the Public Works office, suite 101, of the Threadmill Complex, or they can call (770) 944-4309 and request to receive a package by mail.Β  Completed packages must be received at the Public Works office no later than 4 p.m. on July 22.Β 

Cobb County has already begun demolishing many of the severely flood-damaged homes it purchased. Many of those homes were in the South Cobb area, according to this report from the Marietta Daily Journal.
