A Pitt Student from Austell Details the Range of Emotions and Toll of Ongoing Threats

Sierra Leone Starks, a student at the University of Pittsburgh, originally from Austell, writes about her experiences the last few weeks and, through a compilation of social media exchanges, shares what she and her friends have been going through.

The students at the University of Pittsburgh are subjected to constant evacuations as federal officials from the Department of Justice and FBI investigate a series of bomb threats that have been made against the campus since Feb. 13.

Because of the threats, the school is under a heightened state of security, which has led to "an understandable source of heightened anxiety," University Chancellor Mark Nordenberg said Friday in a statement on the school's website.

So far, no evidence of explosives has been found on campus.

For security reasons, students are being encouraged to bring just what they need for classes and must pass through security checkpoints at buildings with single entrances and show identification before entering.

Pitt is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for the threats.
