With Monica DeLancy, the number running for the South Cobb District 4 Commission seat comes to three.
Monica DeLancy, a 38-year-old mother of two, is officially in the running for District 4 County Commissioner after announcing her intent to run months ago. She filed with the state Campaign Finance Commission on April 18. Community activist and Georgia State University law student Lisa Cupid and Connie Taylor, who has a real estate background erves on the county’s SPLOST Oversight Committee and Board of Tax Assessors, have also filed to run for the July 31 primary for District 4 County Commissioner. Cupid has raised $18,241 from January to March 31 of this year. Taylor raised $3,265, and current South Cobb Commissioner Woody Thompson has not reported raising any funds. DeLancy has lived and volunteered extensively in the Six Flags area …

South and West Cobb residents had their say on Tuesday at Rep. David Wilkerson's town hall meeting about the upcoming TSPLOST vote.
After a presentation and question-and-answer session on the July 31 TSPLOST vote at a town hall hosted by Rep. David Wilkerson (D-Austell), several South Cobb and West Cobb residents voiced their skepticism of the Transportation Investment Act and its accompanying one-cent sales tax. Former Powder Springs Councilman Tom Bevirt told residents Monday that they need to be “skeptical” of the penny tax. Those pushing it have at least $6 million to “inform you, and that’s kind of a polite word,” he said. “So you’ve got to be a little bit more skeptical of this,” Bevirt said. Two dozen or so were in attendance at the town hall meeting. Wilkerson said the meeting was a follow-up to his last one at the center, when many had questions about the …

The Democrat's District 38 includes portions of Austell, Mableton, Powder Springs and Smyrna.
By Rep. David Wilkerson (D-Austell) On July 20, 2010, you elected me to be your voice in the Georgia House of Representatives. I had recently finished my term as chairman of the Cobb County Democratic Party and worked with many of you during the historic election of President Barack Obama. It has been an honor to serve you for the past two years. As a legislator, I have had some tough decisions to make, which impacted the lives of Georgians. I am proud to say that your input has always guided those decisions I made and the votes I have cast. There is still work to be done at the Capitol. We continue to face tough economic times, and traditional public education is under attack. I want to be there to represent you. I have decided to seek re…

Thursday, April 5
A Paulding County judge has made it official: All of Cobb County will vote again on Sunday package sales of alcohol July 31. Superior Court Judge Arthur Fudger signed a consent order Monday between the county and plaintiffs who challenged the March 6 referendum in which residents of unincorporated voted to allow Sunday sales, The Marietta Daily Journal reported. The order was filed with the Cobb County Superior Court clerk's office Tuesday. Former state Rep. Roger Hines of Acworth made the challenge, arguing that the county was wrong to exclude residents of Cobb's six cities from the countywide vote. Fudger received the case because Cobb's Superior Court judges recused themselves. The county Board of Elections and Registration decided …

The election on the regional sales tax is exactly four months away, and the bulk-mail brochures are starting to arrive.
TSPLOST proponents have a lot of work to do in the next four months if the reaction at East Cobb forums is an accurate reflection of public opinion about the regional 1-cent sales tax for transportation projects. That work is well underway. Financed by the Metro Atlanta Voter Education Network, or MAVEN, the four-page brochure recently received by East Cobb Patch follows the suburban story line of the TV commercials you may have seen in favor of the Transportation Improvement Act: In short, as the tagline on the bag of the brochure say, "Less traffic = more time at home." What do you think of the brochure? Will anything you receive in the mail affect how you'll vote on the TSPLOST referendum July 31?

The elections board's decision means a July 31 referendum is likely, and sales could start Aug. 12.
Cobb County is back on the Sunday wagon, at least until mid-August. The Cobb Board of Elections and Registration decided during a special meeting Friday morning not to fight a voter challenge to the referendum that approved Sunday package sales of alcohol in unincorporated parts of Cobb. That means Sunday sales will not start June 3 as now scheduled. It also means all citizens in Cobb County will likely have the chance to vote on Sunday sales again July 31, even though almost 70 percent of county voters already said yes March 6. The problem is that residents of Cobb’s six cities were excluded from the countywide referendum despite paying taxes, electing officials and receiving services from the county and voting on other countywide issues…

The results of the vote are being challenged.
Cobb County's Sunday alcohol sales vote is being taken to court. Marietta lawyer Justin O'Dell of Cauthron, Nohr & O’Dell filed a petition in Cobb County Superior Court today to ask for a revote that includes the residents of the county's six cities as well as those who live in unincorporated areas, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Asked about the county's response, Cobb government spokesman Robert Quigley emailed: "The county will be in court and will provide information to the judge as to what our opinion was based on." County Board of Commissioners Chairman Tim Lee acknowledged to the AJC and the MDJ that excluding city residents was a mistake. If a judge agrees, O'Dell said, the only option is to throw out the March 6 vote …

Obama Stole the 2008 Election! PRODUCED BY DEMOCRATIC PARTY MEMBERS In 2008 Senator Hillary Clinton, by all accounts, except caucuses, won the Primary Election and, therefore, should have been the 2008 Democratic Nominee. That didn't happen, due largely to illegitimate and illegal acts including recounting threats, intimidation, lies, stolen documents, falsified documents, busing in voters in …   more ›
