Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

About this column:

Follow me on my fitness and weight loss journey, as I work to lose weight and commit to a complete lifestyle change. I will find ways to eat healthy and become fit in South Cobb, while updating readers on health issues.
I like pushing myself. I like the feeling of working hard, of being busy and productive. Last week, I pushed myself too much. I was wrking out to one of my Turbo Fire DVDs and all I could see was how my body would look once these workouts paid off. I was doing it, boy! But then, I got too hot. I felt sick. I threw up. I was reminded then that becoming healthy is a process, a journey, and it is not going to happen overnight the way I would like it to. After visiting my first and only Weight Watchers class this week at Orange Hill Baptist Church, I realized that I should not rely upon the …
Everyone knows that exercise is one key to being healthy, but not everyone enjoys going to the gym.  Georgia’s state park system has teamed up with the Georgia Association of Physicians Assistants (GAPA) to make healthy living a bit more fun.  Through the new “Rx for Fitness” Program, physician assistants can prescribe healthy hikes in the great outdoors, and patients can turn in their “prescriptions” for free park passes.   “Rx for Fitness” is part of the State Park system’s new Tons of Fun Fitness Challenge which encourages citizens to use outdoor recreation as part of their regular …
Has anyone ever told you that? I'm born and raised in the South, so I think it's a Southern saying that, "You better slow down or something's gonna slow you down." I'm always busy. I like being busy with worthwhile projects, but I often get overwhelmed. I often neglect my own health. I think, people are counting on me or after I finish this piece, I'll go work out. After a long talk with Austell physical trainer and nutritionist Amia Freeman Wednesday, I realized that there are a lot of reasons why women eat the way we do. She…
Forgive me, South Cobb. I promised I would regularly update you on my weight loss journey every Wednesday, and I promised myself that I would lose the toddler. Since my last column, I walked about a mile with Mableton Improvement Coalition; I visited the weekly salsa dancing lessons at Mexico Lindo; I took my dog, Noah on the Silver Comet Trail and got in about 3.5 miles. As I’ve gotten back in the groove after the New Year excitement, I’ve started hustling again to deliver news about South Cobb to you all and that means bouncing from interview to meeting to some place with wi-fi to get it …
This week, I was not as dilligent as I have been. It was my birthday, so I gave myself a few allowances, like cake and half a bacon cheeseburger from the Vortex and soda. However, on Sunday, I did hike/walk slowly/crawl Little Kennesaw Mountain. It was tons of fun! My overall weight loss has been three pounds over the last two weeks. This week, I'm going to kick it into high gear. I'm working out every day of the week. On Tuesday, I'll join in with the Mableton Improvement Walking Club at 6 p.m. and I will update this article with other local events so that you all can join me. As I mentioned…
