If it's Tuesday then it must be the Commission chambers and another debate between the four persons seeking to fill the position of Cobb County Commission Chairman.
This weeks debate followed a similar discussion in Vinings on Monday night where some candidates chose not to even show up.
The Tuesday night version was broadcast on Channel 23 and will be be rebroadcast in future slots. The program was coordinated by CCCC and the moderator was Ron Sifen. At least this one allowed a little interaction but still no face to face opportunities for the candidates to challenge the remarks of the other persons.
Three candidates are obviously opposed and vehemently opposed to the TSPLOST. Candidates Bill Byrne, Mike Boyce and Larry Savage are openly opposed to any such Tax and Tim Lee is on the record for supporting it on the July 31st vote.
Water, Budgets and compensation also were topics that drew differences of opinion from the four. The audience of about 50 people, including candidates from other races, cheered when the speaker at the time denounced the tax increases, millage increases, SPLOST renewals, water charges and bus rate increases. The theme for the night seemed to dwel on the fact that at a time of crisis in the economy when so many folk are unemployed, underemployed and in fear of loosing their homes through foreclosure this is not and never will be the time to raise taxes as has happened over the last twelve months.
Other candidates in attendance were Vic Reynolds, Cindi Yeager, Larry Burke, Nathan Wade, Van Perlberg, Marcia Lake, John Skelton and Rebecca Keaton. Bob Ott who is unapposed in the upcoming election also attended and was credited for involvement with the citizens oversight committee.
